Union Market Mural

Project Description

Union Market is a historic market in NE Washington, DC that has a long legacy as the center of DC’s wholesale district. In 2012, real estate developer Edens turned the building into a sleek, modern marketplace and culinary haven for DC’s emerging food scene. In order to pay homage to the long history of the market in this district, Union Market approached Cherry Blossom Creative to create a mural featuring old ‘Union Terminal Market’ ads from the 1930’s. We created a series of maps and ads from classic advertisements, including one that listed all of the original vendors of the Union Terminal Market area, many of whom are still in business.

The Mural

The mural that we created was over 50 feet long and 10 feet high and features vintage ads. The mural sits on the back wall of the market, and serves as an interactive reference to the history of the market.
